Lucille Dietsche

Lucille Marie Dietsche, 91, of Eau Claire, Wis., died peacefully, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease, on November 30, 2005 at Harbor House in Eau Claire.

Lucille was born November 18, 1914, in De Witt, Iowa, to Raymond and Constance (Reese) Schmitt. Lucille attended school in Thorp, Wis. After graduating from high school, she wanted to be a librarian as she loved to read; however, she went to work as a nanny for families in the St Paul, Minn., area until meeting her beloved Fred Dietsche Jr. They married on June 10, 1939, in Thorp. Lucille lived in several cities in Wisconsin over the years, as Fred was employed by the Soo Line Railroad. She was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church in the cities where she lived. After the death of her husband in 1959, Lucille worked as a cook at the hotel in Ladysmith, Wis., until moving to Wausau, Wis. It was here that she retired from work at the Holiday Inn as a salad prep cook. In her retirement, Lucille enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren, albeit in Wisconsin, Arizona or California.

Lucille is survived by her children, Karen (Louis) Andruszkiewicz of Thorp, Patricia (Bob) Chittendon of Eau Claire, Mary (Bob) Kirby of Cupertino, Calif., Neil (Diane) Dietsche of Hudson, Stephen (Patricia) of Wausau and Jean Barnes (fiancé Kevin) of Greencove Springs, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and more on the way; sisters, Rita (Ed) Golen of St Francis and Theresa (Gordy) Conrad of Wausau; brothers, Virgil (Lucille) Schmitt of Cadott, James (Helen) Schmitt of Wabasha, Minn., and Bernie (Mickey) Schmitt of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Doris Dietsche of Stevens Point; many nieces and nephews on both her side of the family and Fred’s; and many friends.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; twin sons, John and Joseph; sister, Mercedes; brother, Fritz; brother-in-law, Alex; sister-in-law, Helen.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon on Saturday, December 3, 2005, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 Eleventh St., Eau Claire, with Rev. John Schultz and Rev. Frank Corradi con-celebrating. Interment will be in West Spencer Cemetery in Spencer, Wis. Those wishing to attend are welcome.

Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

The family requests that memorials may be directed to Harbor House, Northwest Wisconsin HomeCare Hospice, St. James Building Fund, or the Community Health Partnership.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff, residents and families of Harbor House for their wonderful care of Lucille. This truly became her home these past years. Appreciation also goes to Northwest Wisconsin HomeCare Hospice team and Community Health Partnership.
