Daines, Alice Lauretta (4 July 1870 – 4 Dec. 1942)

Mrs. Seth E. Daines died at her home in Colby Monday noon of a heart attack at the age of 72 years. She had been in ill health for the past eight years following a stroke. The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home until the funeral services which will be held at the Lulloff Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 2:00 P.M., Rev. A. C. Riley officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

Alice L. Glenn was born in Logan, Ohio, July 4th, 1870, and was married to Seth Daines on Oct. 16, 1897, at Dell, Wis. Since 1900 they made their home in Colby.

Surviving besides her husband are two daughters and one son – Mrs. Fred Tischendorf and Mrs. James Erickson of Dorchester and Pvt. Clifford Daines of Camp Buetner, N.C. Also two brothers and one sister – L. D. Glenn and R. W. Glenn of Harlowton, Mont., and Miss Clara A. Glenn of Viroqua, Wis. One daughter, Blanche, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Daines was a good Christian and kind wife and mother. She was of a congenial and home-loving disposition who always was more interested in her family than in social events.

Funeral services for Mrs. Seth E. Daines, whose death was chronicled last week, were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby Friday afternoon, Rev. A. C. Riley officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Louis Sachse, O. W. Sturner, Chas. Rasmussen, E. D. Loos, Fred Dix and Nick Kanter.

Alice Lauretta Glenn was born in Hocking county, Ohio, on July 4th, 1872, and moved to Vernon county Wisconsin, with her parents, Luther H. Glenn and Harriet Walker Glenn, when she was but a small child, and attended the public schools of that county.

On the 16th day of October, 1897, she was married to Seth E. Daines and they resided in Vernon county until their removal to Colby, Wisconsin, in the year 1901, where they have resided until the time of her death, on the 14th day of December, 1942.

Since she was a small child she has been a member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by her bereaved husband; and her twin daughters, Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Tischendorf and Mrs. James (Louise) Erickson, each of Dorchester, Wisconsin; one son, Private Clifford Daines, who is stationed with the armed forces in North Carolina; two brothers, Lewis D. Glenn and Robert W. Glenn, each residing at Harlowton, Montana; a sister, Miss Clara A. Glenn, of Viroqua, Wisconsin; and five nieces, fourteen nephews and six grand-children. Her parents are both deceased.

Mrs. Daines was the oldest of six children of whom her brother, Worley B. Glenn passed away in Pontiac, Michigan, in the fall of 1932, and her brother William L. Glenn, died in Helena, Montana, in June, 1939. The surviving son, Clifford Daines, is a private in Battery 307 F.A. 78 Division, Camp Butner, N.C.

Of the five children of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Daines, one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Erickson, the wife of Mr. John Erickson, passed away near Milan, Wis., in June 1927, and one son, Cyrus Daines, died in Spokane, Washington, in October 1927.

Of the surviving nephews of Mrs. Daines is the three known to be in the armed forces of this government at this time are Private Robert Glenn, Jr., in training at Fort Dix, N.J., Sergeant Theodore C. Glenn, of the Headquarters Co. U.S. Signal Corps Rep. Trm. Center, Camp Kohler, Sacramento, Calif.; and Private Wm. R. Glenn of Co. E. 5th Regiment Quartermasters R.T.C. Barracks No. 327 Fort F. E. Warren, Wyomong. Four nephews who are believed to be in the war zone are Germaine Erwin Daines, Duane Daines, Russel C. Daines and Gilbert C. Carncross, well known in Valley, Hillsbor, Dell, LaFarge and Rockton.

Mrs. Daines was a faithful wife, a kind and loving sister and mother, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Pvt. Clifford Daines of Camp Butner, N.C., Mrs. Fred Tischendorf and Mrs. James Erickson of Dorchester and L. D. Glenn of Harlowton, Mont.
