Huber, Roy (3 Apr. 1918 – 27 Dec. 1942)

A telegram was received by Henry Huber on January 21 that his son, Pfc. Roy Huber, died on Dec. 27th in the fierce fighting in New Guinea. The last letter received from Roy was on Dec. 28th, the day after his death, but it was written on Dec. 4th. In that letter, he stated that all was well. Details of his death are still unknown.

Roy was born in Colby on April 3, 1918. He attended the public schools and graduated from Colby High School in 1936. After graduating from high school, he went to California where he spent a few years and then went to Kohler where he worked until the time he was inducted in the army on March 20, 1941. He was stationed at Camp Livingston, La., and later transferred to Ft. Devens, Mass., and then to Ft. Ord, Calif. He left with the 32nd Division for Australia in April 1942, and landed in New Guinea on Thanksgiving Day.

Survivors are his father, four sisters and one brother – Mrs. Lillian Faas of Kohler, with whom he made his home, Mrs. Evelyn Dottei and Mrs. Annette Pinnecher of Sheboygan, Mrs. Audrey Matson of Unity and Jesse Huber of Illinois. His mother preceded him in death two years ago and a sister eight years ago.
