McCrorey, J. V. (21 July 1860 – 1943)

J. V. McCrorey, the youngest and last surviving child of a family of 10 children, was born to Thomas and Sara (Prather) McCrorey on July 21, 1860, at Greenville, Mo. The deceased was 82 years, 11 months and 17 days of age, at the time death closed a long and useful life. He remembered his Creator in the days of his youth and expressed his faith by living a conscientious and honest life, striving to serve his master to the fullest extends of his faith and life. He chose the church of Brethren, of German Baptist, as his place to worship.

He had one natural talent which gave him great pleasure all his life, and that was the gift of song. His was a clear tenor voice. There are many yet living who can testify that he was a great singer. He conducted the old-time singing school for fifteen years, and was always leader of the singing in his church, and at funerals. One great sorrow of his later years was that his singing voice failed.

On Dec. 7, 1884, he was united in marriage to Laura Ellen Transue of Plattsburg, Mo. She preceded him in death.

To this union were born three children: a daughter, Mrs. Beulah Norman of Neillsville, Wis.; two sons, Olin J. of Yuma, Ariz., and Basil V., of Osseo, Wis.

Mr. McCrorey is survived by his three children nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at Osseo and he was laid to rest beside his wife in the Neillsville Cemetery on Sunday, July 11, at 3 p.m.
