Kobs, Paul T. (11 Jan. 1890 – 9 Mar. 1944)

Paul T. Kobs, a native of Colby, died at Burlington, Wis., at 7:00 A.M. last Thursday, March 9th, a heart ailment of two years duration being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held Saturday at the McCarthy Funeral Home at Burlington and the church services were held at the Congregational church at Mukwonago. Internment was made in the Mukwonago cemetery. The American Legion, of which the deceased was a member, conducted services at the cemetery and American Legion members acted as pall bearers. As a tribute to Paul, his fellow switchmen paid a tribute to him by saluting and passing with the locomotive that he formerly operated as he was taken to his last resting place.

Mr. Kobs was born in Colby on January 11, 1890. He was married to Mrs. Elsie (Plattner) Tans at Waukesha, Wis., on Sept. 10th, 1934. He had been employed by the Soo Line – for 35 years as a switchman and the last five years as yard-switch foreman. He served in the First World War for 18 months and was in France with the 31st Engineers.

Mr. Kobs was well liked by all who knew him, not only in Colby but also where he made his home and work. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are his wife and two children, Phyllis and Kenneth Tans; two brothers, Fred J. Kobs and George Kobs of Colby; two nieces, Bernice and Eileen Kobs of Colby; and two nephews, Pvt. Delos Kobs and Gerald Kobs.
