Simmons, Charles (26 Nov. 1887 – 30 May 1944)

Charles Simmons died Tuesday night at 8:00 o’clock at the age of 56 years at his home in Colby after an illness of only a few days. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. D. Grether officiating. The body is lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home. Internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Simmons was born in Willis, Va., on November 26th, 1887, and, when a young man, went to Homestead, N. Dak. He married Pearl Gasho on November 22, 1910, at Medora, N. Dak. In 1934 they moved to Neillville where Mr. Simmons was in the cattle business. They made their home in Colby since 1940 where Mr. Simmons was in the horse and cattle business.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Miss Emma Rea of Milwaukee; five brothers, Regle of Glendive, Mont., Posie of Troutville, Va., Archie of Willis, Va., Oden of Kentland, Ind., and Ellis of Willis, Va.; and five sisters, Mrs. Otto Brown of Sidney, Mont., Mrs. Charles Kartes of Wibaux, Mont., Mrs. Homer Sowers of Willis, Va. One sister, Stella, died a few years ago.

Funeral services for Charles T. Simmons, who died at his home in Colby Tuesday evening, May 30th, were held at the First Ev. and Reformed church Friday afternoon, Rev. D. Grether officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Miss Lenore Berry and Miss Wilma Marquardt sang “Face to Face,” and “The Lord is My Shepherd,” accompanied by Mrs. Melvin Prine at the organ. Pall bearers were Adolph Caron, Henry Wydeven, William Neuhaus, Fred Wolk, Emil Fasbender and Peter Apfelbeck. Those in charge of the flowers were Virginia Firnstahl, Theresa Caron, Serena Sabler, Lavera Stieber, Esther Wydeven, Dora Neuhaus, Rita Kriplean, Lorraine Wolk and Patricia Reeves.

Relatives from out of town here for the services were Mrs. Pearlie Simmons and Miss Emma Rea Simmons of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Regle Simmons and daughter, Fay, of Glendive, Mont., and Amos Gasho of Beach, N.D.

Business places, where possible, were closed during the funeral services, from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M.
