Victor M. Roman, age 81, died November 30, 2007, at his home near St. Maries, ID. He was born September 28, 1926 to John and Mary (Javocki) Romanowicz in Thorp, WI. He grew up in Thorp. In 1943 he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific and China-Burma Theaters of War.

Following his discharge in 1945, Victor returned to Thorp to finish his high school education. He married Pauline Neisius on August 25, 1947, in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home in Thorp, where he operated the family farm. He moved to St. Maries, ID in 1963, where he worked in the reconstruction of Potlatch Plywood Mill. He worked there until 1979 when he became a self-employed cedar shake maker. He also raised cattle on his ranch near Mashburn. He retired in 1991.

Victor was a devoted caregiver for his wife who, due to an automobile accident, was a quadriplegic for 34 years prior to her death in 2002. He donated his wood shop to make a chapel named St. Joseph’s Chapel for Tridentine Latin masses for local parishioners. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Post Falls, ID.

Victor is survived by his sons: John Roman of Valley Ford, WA, Joe Roman, Robert Roman, Kenneth Roman and Donald Roman, all of Post Falls, ID; daughters: Rita West of St. Maries, ID, Ruth Crownhart of Highland, IL, and Bridget Jackson of Spokane, WA. Also surviving are his sister, Joan Schneider of Wisconsin; 34 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, as well as sons Victor, Edwin and Charles Roman, two brothers and seven sisters.

Rosary was recited Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Hodge Funeral Home. Rosary was also recited Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Post Falls, ID, and Solemn High Mass was recited Thursday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Patrick Crane officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends followed graveside services at the Benedictine Hall in St. Maries, ID.
