Beachwood, George (22 JUL 1852 - 24 NOV 1919)

While out hunting in the woods about three miles from Donald, Wis., on Tuesday afternoon of last week, George Beachwood of the town of Worden, Clark County, Wis., was mistaken for a deer and shot through the abdomen and fatally wounded by E. F. Heideman of the town of Reseberg. The two had been hunting together during the forenoon of that day, but had separated during the afternoon, the accident occurring about two o'clock. After considerable delay in securing assistance, Mr. Beachwood was carried to Donald on a stretcher and put aboard the Velvet Limited and taken to the hospital at Ladysmith, where he passed away about seven o'clock on Wednesday evening. Mr. Beachwood was born in Niagara Co., N.Y., on July 22, 1852. In 1857 he came to Sheboygan Co., Wis., with his parents. At the age of sixteen he left home, working in several states and rafting on the Mississippi River. On Oct. 21, 1880 he was united in marriage to Marietta Boardman at Rochester, Minn., and immediately removed to this place, homesteading a forty of land lying in the southern portion of the village. His wife passed away nearly thirty years ago. He leaves three sons, William, Thomas and Frank Beachwood, and one sister, a resident of Sheboygan County. The sons were all present at the funeral. The body of deceased was brought here to the residence of E. H. Barrett on Thursday last and the funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, Rev. G. C. Wadding officiating, interment following in the Thorp Village Cemetery. Mr. Beachwood was an honorable man in the highest sense that term implies. To man, woman or child he always extended a cordial greeting that lent a ray of light to brighten their pathway in the journey of life. His passing is much regretted by the entire community. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Beachwood made a statement before his death absolving E. F. Heideman from all blame in firing the fatal shot and that no action be taken against him.
