Obit: Soeller, Leonard (1913-2003)
Leonard J. Soeller 1913-2003 Leonard John Soeller, 89, passed away April 2 at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. Len was born May 9, 1913, in Stanley to Kate (Smasal) and Joseph Soeller. As a young man he worked on the family farm and for local farmers in the Stanley area. He also was a cheese maker, employed by Alex Soeller at Breezy Hill Cheese Factory, south of Thorp, as well as working with his brother-in-law, A.P. Diedrich, at the Clear Creek Cheese Factory. Len was working at the West Worden Cheese Factory when he met Bernice May. At 9:30 in the morning of Tuesday, October 25, 1938, Len and Bernice May were united in marriage at St. Anne’s Church, officiated by Rev. Paul Pitzenberger. On returning home from their honeymoon, they resided with the bride’s parents temporarily, until they purchased the Stark Farm east of Stanley. The couple successfully operated the dairy farm for 38 years. Upon retirement, they moved to their home in Stanley. Len enjoyed their yearly trips to San Francisco, especially Fisherman’s Wharf, and visiting friends and relatives in the Pacific Northwest. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and spending time with his dog, Snoopy. Len and Bernice delivered meals on wheels for 14 years. Len was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Len is survived by his sister, Bernadine Benzschawel of Owen; his sister-in-law Viola Soeller of Stanley; 13 nieces, nine nephews; many grand nieces and nephews; and special friends Vaughn and Amelia Forster of Chippewa Falls. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, in 1999; an infant daughter, Kathleen, in 1945; his sisters, Theresa Wellner and Gertrude Diedrich; his brother, Norman Soeller; his brother-in-law, Laverne May; a niece, Noreen Soeller; and a nephew, Gerald May. Funeral Services were conducted at Holy Family Church on April 8. Father Robert Nelson officiated. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery in Stanley. Pallbearers were Jeff May, Robert May, Duane Soller, Jerome Benzschawel, Tim Mahr and Jim Ebert. The Stanley Republican April 10, 2003
