100 Years Ago, Nov. 15, 1902 The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company is making extensive experiments with a telephone system designed, if found successful to be installed in the more important offices of the system and to be used as auxiliary equipment to the telegraph, mainly for local messages.

70 Years Ago, Nov. 11, 1932 Headquarters Troop finished up the target season this year with 60 men qualifying out of a total of 66 men and two officers. The high score of the season was made by Capt. Leo W. Veeser with a 247 out of a possible 250. Vincent Gulchinski said he had three wells drilled, each one ending in sandstone and each well produces rusty water. He intends to dig the next one by hand. The farm lies in the glacial change depicted on Wisconsin soil maps about three miles north of Stanley and north for several miles.

60 Years Ago, Nov. 13, 1942 Gas rationing for this area is now in progress at Stanley High School gymnasium and will continue today and tomorrow.

50 Years Ago, Nov. 13, 1952 The roof is now completed on the Maves Memorial Pavillion. A four-pitch roof, it is shingled with rust colored asphalt shingles. Two days of labor were generously donated by Anker Gilberts and Oscar Solie, to complete the carpentry work on the building.

40 Years Ago, Nov. 15, 1962 The Sears, Roebuck and Co. catalog store, owned by Mel Steivang, is now in its new location, the former K & M Store building across the street from the old Sears location. Don's Radio and TV Shop will be moving into the south half of the former K & M Store building this week, according to owner Don Plummer. New mail carts were put into service last Friday by city carriers Bob Heiting and Willard Mortenson.

25 Years Ago, November 10, 1977 Three service stations in Stanley have changed hands recently. Clayton 'Taty' Herrick has purchased the station on South Broadway formerly owned by Mike VanZutphen. Gary Miller recently leased the Mobil station next to the Irishman's Shanty, and calls it Miller's Mobil. Charles and Shirley Jordan have leased the Shell station near the Badger Inn from Thaler Oil and have installed a Sun Diagnostic Computer.

10 Years Ago, Nov. 12, 1992 The Stanley Lions Club recently purchased a VCR, monitor and stand, and donated these items to the D.R. Moon Library. The cost of this service project was $989.
