Henry Lachnit, pastor of St. Mary’s congregation at Colby for fifteen years, died at his home in Marshfield Friday morning at 9:15 o’clock at the age of 79 years, a cerebral hemorrhage being the cause of his death. A Solemn Requiem High Mass was held for Rev. Lachnit Tuesday morning at St. John’s Catholic church at Marshfield, His Excellency Coadjutor Bishop John P. Treacy served as celebrandt at the mass. He was assisted by Rev. Wenzel Multerer of Marathon as deacon and Rev. Edmund Cramer of Sacred Heart church, of Marshfield, as sub-deacon. Rev. Charles Wolf of Vesper acted as master of ceremonies and Rev. Joseph Steinhauser of Auburndale delivered the sermon. Rev. Robert Oberwinder of Hewitt served as thurifer and Rev. Arthur Cramer of Bakerville and Rev. Leonard Stieber of Blenker served as acolytes. Rev. Oscar Cramer of Milladore directed the priest’s choir. The Rev. Fr. Lachnit, who had no surviving relatives, was born at Hols, Krefeld, Germany, July 5th, 1866, and received his primary education in Germany. In 1892 he moved to Holland to finish his education also taking post graduate work. On Aug. 28, 1899, he was ordained to the priesthood. Two years later Father Lachnit came to the United States to serve as professor of theology and philosophy at Jesuit College at Prairie du Chien, working in that capacity for six years. He spoke several languages fluently. In 1908 he went to Cassville to serve a parish there until November, 1913, going to Cashton at that time. In 1917 his transfer to St. Mary’s parish at Colby took place. Fifteen years later, in 1932, he went to St. Andrew’s parish in Rozellville, serving that place for 9 ˝ years. Since Oct. 29, 1941, he had been retired and had made his home in Marshfield.
