Claviter, Albert C. (24 DEC 1874 – 18 APR 1941)

Albert Charles Claviter was born on Dec. 24, 1874, at Oshkosh, the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. William Claviter. His mother’s maiden name was Caroline Schultz.

At 11 months of age he came to Medford (Taylor Co., Wis.). Here he spent his boyhood days attending the Medford City School and helping his parents make a farm out of the wilderness. In Sept. 1907 the farm was sold and his parents retired to a small place just south of Medford.

Albert spent several years in South Dakota where he filed and laid claim to a 160-acre tract of land. It was there where he met Alta Baker of Iowa, whom he married July 1, 1910. They lived in Medford several years where he had charge of the Medford electric light plant. He then operated the pump of the Medford water works and previous to this he was also an engineer of the Medford tannery and worked in the Westboro sawmill.

In 1920 they moved to Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) where he erected the Wayside Service Station.

In March 1930, Mrs. Claviter died and he continued to run his station for some years.

In the summer of 1930 he met with an accident in which a bullet passed through the main bone of one leg. The result of this injury very much weakened his bodily strength.

August 31, 1936, he was married to Miss Ruth Barry of Chippewa Falls.

March 13, this year he had a paralytic stroke, and on April 18, 1941, he passed away. Surviving him are his wife, two sisters and one brother.
