Huber, Roy J. (3 Apr. 1913 – 26 Dec. 1942)

The body of Roy J. Huber, a Colby soldier who was killed in action while in the U.S. service in the Pacific area, will leave Chicago on Wednesday and arrive in Colby on Thursday morning, July 1, at 3:25 A.M., and remain in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home until Friday afternoon when funeral services will be held at 1:00 at the funeral home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Methodist church, Rev. F. J. Smith officiating and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery. The funeral will be military.

Mr. Huber was born in Colby on April 3, 1913, attended public schools in Colby and was a graduate of the Colby High School. In ***1918, he went to Kohler where he was employed by the Kohler Company. He left for army service on March 20, 1941, and was stationed at Camp Livingston, La., Fort Devens, Mass., and Fort Ord, Calif., before leaving for Australia in April, 1942. He landed in New Guinea on Thanksgiving Day.

Surviving are his father Henry Huber of Racine, a former resident of Colby, and four sisters, Mrs. Willard (Lillian) Faas of Kohler, Mrs. Darwin (Annette) Chapman of Racine, Mrs. Albert (Audrey) Matson of Unity and Mrs. Walter (Evelyn) Dottel of Sheboygan.

*** Obviously, 1918 is not the correct year. Also, according to another obituary in this same paper, printed in 1943, Roy was born in 1918 and went to Kohler in 1936.

Funeral services for Roy J. Huber, who was killed in action while in the service of his country, as reported last week, were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon, Rev. F. J. Smith officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The funeral was military. Pall bearers were Lawrence Mueller, Junior Tesmer, Lester Brehm, Ernie Strathman, Harry Strathman and Herbert Hederer. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Angus Lamont, Jr., Mrs. Harold Kademan, Miss Patsy Reeves, Mrs. Merlin Schjoneman, Mrs. Alvina Baumgart and Mrs. Tony Schuh.

Out of town people here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Willard Fass of Kohler, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dottel and Wally, Janet and Bobby of Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Chapman, Arthur and Philip Pinicker of Racine, Henry Huber of Racine, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Matson and family of Unity, Mrs. Anna Huber, Mrs. Ed Werrich and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dieterle, all of Prairie du Sac, Wis.
