Reeves, Henry A. (14 Feb. 1866 – 7 Dec. 1948)

Henry A. Reeves, Sr., died at St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse, Tuesday, Dec. 7th, at the age of 82 years, nine months and 24 days, old age complications being the cause of his death. He had been in the hospital 10 days. The body was taken to Colby and is lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home where a rosary service will be held Friday evening. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 A.M., at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers will be members of the Colby Fire department of which he was a charter member.

The deceased was born in Portage, Wis., on Feb. 14, 1866, and came to Colby with his parents – William Reeves who was born in England and Eliza Triffin who was born in Canada – when he was 14 years of age. He was married to Catherine Watenphol in Colby on July 25, 1893. He worked as a scaler at the Salter saw mill in Colby for several years and then operated a pop factory in Colby for 15 years. Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Reeves moved to LaCrosse and made their home at St. Joseph’s Home. Mrs. Reeves died June 7th, 1948. One brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter – Henry of Colby, John of Milwaukee, Harold of Abbotsford, and Mrs. Wm. (Neva) Harry of Colby. Also surviving are one brother, William, of Lake Bay, Wash., 12 grand children and seven great grand children.

Funeral services for Henry A. Reeves, Sr., were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Saturday morning, Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Carl Holtzhausen, John Pribnow, John Engeldinger, Walter Mueller, Bud Hemmy and Wayne Davis.

Out of town people here for the funeral were John Reeves and Garry Reeves of Milwaukee, Ronnie Reeves of Madison, Mrs. Dena Meach and Mrs. Leonard Johnson of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reeves of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Travis and Mr. and Mrs. Ettie Rahl of Augusta, Mrs. Henry Wydeven and Mrs. Walter Potz of Spencer.
