Surnames: Holmes, Meacham, Blair Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 02/07/1952 Army Chaplain, Brother of Two Colby Women, Honored Fort McArthur, Calif. – Chaplain (Captain) Peter N. Holmes, whose sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Meacham and Mrs. Herman Blair, live in Colby, left Fort McArthur this week for Camp Cooke where he will serve with the 16th Signal Battalion. Chaplain Holmes was assigned to this San Pedro, Calif. army post in Sept. 1950. Fort McArthur is the headquarters for the III Corps and the center of Organized Army Reserve training in Southern California. Over 1,000 reservists are trained here each weekend. Chaplain Holmes was recently honored by the San Pedro Ministerial Associaton when he was elected vice-president of the group. Entering the service in March 1943, he graduated from the Army Chaplain’s School, and served in the Pacific area during World War II. He was stationed in Germany with the 1st Infantry Division before coming here. Among his decorations are the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Service Star, Victory Ribbon, and the European Occupation Ribbon. Before entering the army, Chaplain Holmes studied at Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky., and obtained a B.E. degree from Central State Teacher’s College, Stevens Point.
