Reichersamer, Ludwig (31 July 1905 – 18 Feb. 1953)

Funeral services for Ludwig Reichersamer of Abbotsford, age 47, who died Wednesday evening, Feb. 18, were held in the Presbyterian church at Abbotsford Sunday afternoon, Rev. Richard Harrison officiating, and internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. Pall bearers were Vern Gokey, Kenneth Ingersoll, Donald Ingersoll, Warren Colby, Art Leichtnam and Lowell Dorn.

Mr. Reichtersamer was suddenly stricken ill Sunday afternoon, Feb. 15, at Stratford. The family had been visiting Mrs. Reichersamer’s sister, Mrs. Charles Severt, and was preparing to leave. Mr. Reichersamer had started the car motor and returned to the house when he became violently ill. He was taken by ambulance to the Marshfield hospital where he lapsed into unconsciousness on Tuesday and remained in that state until his death Wednesday evening at 7:00 o’clock. An autopsy showed a brain inflammation caused by a virus.

Mr. Reichersamer was born on July 31, 1905, in Neufahren, Naderbayern, Bavaria, Germany. Here he received his grade school education and served three years as an apprentice shoemaker. His sister, Mrs. John Ettlinger, moved to St. Paul, Minn., in 1926 and two years later sent for her brother. He stayed with her until 1930 and then established a shoe repair in Dorchester. He moved to Abbotsford about three years later into a building since replaced by the present post office. Several years later, he erected the building where until his illness, he operated a shoe store and shoe repair shop. On Sept. 30, 1934, he married Miss Ethel Buell of Abbotsford, route 1, in St. Paul, Minn.

Mr. Reichersamer was a member of the Abbotsford Presbyterian church, of the Abbotsford Lodge F. & A. M. which organization conducted Masonic rites at the funeral. Harry Treat officiated at the Masonic services.

Surviving are his widow; three sons, Roger, age 17, Jack, age 14, and Bob, age 13, all at home; his sister, Mrs. John (Rosa) Ettinger, of St. Paul; a sister, Mrs. Anna Bichleder in Neufahren, Germany; two brothers, Jacon and John in Neufahren, Germany.
