Beck, Carolyn (24 July 1894 – 1 Apr. 1953)

Mrs. Albert Beck died suddenly Wednesday morning, April 1, at the age of 58 years, at the Marshfield hospital following a stroke which she suffered Tuesday afternoon at about 4:00 o’clock. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. Frank Brickl officiating, and internment will be made in the Dorchester cemetery.

Mrs. Beck was home alone when she suffered a stroke Tuesday afternoon at about 4:00 o’clock. Mr. Beck autoed their daughter, Betty, a student nurse to Wausau where she attended a lecture after which the two returned to Colby, and, on arriving at their home, found Mrs. Beck lying in the garage. It is estimated that she could not have been lying there over an hour as a neighbor boy, Billy Grauman, saw her after school. A physician was summoned and then she was rushed to the Marshfield hospital where she passed away Wednesday at 4:00 A.M.

Mrs. Beck, the former Carolyn Hutter, was born on July 24, 1894, at Plain, Wis., where she married Albert A. Beck on June 7, 1916. In 1917, they moved to Bakerville, in 1919 to Dorchester and in January 1948 to Colby.

Surviving are her husband; seven children, Albert of Waukesha, Mrs. Sy Poslie of Rhinelander, Mrs. William Hazen of LaCanada, Calif., Myron Beck of Wausau, Anthony of Colby, James of Stevens Point and Betty at home; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert Schoenman, Mrs. George Rieder and Mrs. Frank Rach, all of Spring Green, Wis. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Beck was a member of the Christian Mothers’ Society and St. Mary’s congregation of Colby. She was of an affectionate disposition, bright and winning in her ways so that friendship’s circle to her was a large one. Indeed, it may be said of her, that “none knew her but to like her.” Her cheerful greetings will be missed by many.

Last rites for Mrs. Caroline Beck were held at St. Mary’s church in Colby Saturday, April 4 at 10:30 A.M. with Father Frank Brickl officiating. Burial was made in the Memorial cemetery at Dorchester. Pall bearers were Ed Becker, Wm. Sedlack, Wm. Jantsch, Frank Seidel, Henry Feldbrugge and Frank Feldbrugge.

On Monday morning, April 6th, at 9:00 o’clock, a solemn requiem high mass was celebrated for the deceased with Father Frank Brickl officiating and Father Charles Beck of Darlington, nephew of the deceased, and Father Francis Heindl of La Crosse as deacon and sub-deacon.
