Riemer, Rose (19 Sept. 1869 – 13 May 1953)

Mrs. Rose Riemer, a former resident of Colby, died on May 13 at 8:45 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, at the age of 83 years. She suffered a stroke on January 19 and was a patient at the hospital in Watertown until March 8 when she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Stefan, near Hartford, until she entered the hospital again on May 12. Her body laid in state at her home Friday afternoon, and Saturday, until 11 A.M. from where it was taken to St. Luke’s church where funeral services were held Saturday, May 16, at 3:00 P.M., Rev. Kurt Timmel officiating. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery in Watertown. Pall bearers were five grand sons, Wilbur, Fred and Jesse Kennon, Gerald Stefan, Clarence Vergenz and a nephew, Marvin Becker. Flowers were in charge of Jayve Stefan, Lois Riemer and Nolo Riemer.

Mrs. Riemer, the former Rose Meyer, was born at Watertown on September 19, 1869. In 1888, she was married to Albert Riemer of Watertown and a year later they moved to Appleton for about eight years, farmed at Greenville. They then moved onto a farm west of Colby where they farmed for 25 years. Mrs. Riemer also resided at Marshfield, Columbus, Hustisford, Lebanon, Hartford and for about 20 years at Watertown.

Surviving are two daughters, Nelda Stefan of Hartford and Sadie Kennon of Milwaukee; four sons, John of Menasses, Georgia, Ernst of Ft. Atkinson, Louis of Waupaca and Leonard of Watertown; 30 grand children; 20 great grand children; a sister, Helen Lay of Merrill; a brother, Joseph Meyer of Ft. Atkinson. Her husband, a daughter, Meta, and a son, Arnold, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church at Watertown.

Out of town people attending the funeral were from Menasses, Ga., Ft. Atkinson, Waupaca, Hartford, Milwaukee, Edgar, Marshfield and Chicago, Ill.
