HARLAND CARL LOST TO BADGERS FOR YEAR

GREENWOOD SOPH TO TURN IN SUIT

Gets Added Year Of Competition

Madison--Both good and bad news came from the Wisconsin football camp Monday.

Harland Carl, speedy sophomore back from Greenwood, will be lost for the season, Coach Ivy Williamson said.

Carl broke a wrist bone in an early scrimmage and had seen no action since. There was some speculation that the breakaway runner needed in the Badger offense might be able to return later in the season, but Williamson said university medical authorities advised Carl to turn in his suit.

Carl joins veteran guard Bill Gable and sophomore back Tom Rendler on the shelf.

Gable suffered a knee injury and Rendler hurt his hand before the season started. All three saved a year of eligibility by not playing in any games.

On the better side, the Badgers appear to be in better physical shape for Saturday's game with Michigan.

Tackles Charles Yderstad and back Bob Mansfield appear to have recoverd from ankle hurts. Both missed the Illinois and Iowa games.

Williamson Monday switched Mansfirld from right to left halfback on the offense platoon.

Varsity men who did not see action against Iowa last week scrimmaged the Jayvees as others limbered up.

The day was concluded with a showing of movies of the Iowa game and presentation of scouts reports on Michigan.
