Brotherton, Robert (25 Apr. 1876 – 28 June 1954)

Robert Brotherton of the town of Hull died Monday morning at the age of 78 years, old age complications being the cause of his death. He had been ailing for two years but was seriously ill for only the past two weeks. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Rev. Harvey Schall officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Brotherton was born in Baraboo, Wis., on April 25, 1876, and came to the town of Hull with his parents when 10 years of age. When 21 years of age, he bought a tract of timberland in the town of Hull which, by hard and diligent work he built into a splendid farm. He married Lulu Allan in Colby on December 30, 1909.

Surviving are one son, Marion; four step children, James Allan of Milwaukee, Tillie Brotherton of Manitowoc, Daisy Perske and Nina Walker of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three brothers, Alvin of Neillsville, Richard of Manitowoc and Tom of Tomah, Wash.; one sister, Kate Hartford of Opportunity, Wash. There are four grand children and two great grand children.

Like all early pioneers, the deceased was of a friendly and congenial disposition, honest in his dealings, so friendship circle to him was a large one. Although many of his friends have already passed away, there are still many who will remember him for his many good qualities.

Funeral services for Robert Brotherton, whose death was chronicled last week, were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home last Thursday afternoon, Rev. Harvey Schall officiating, and burial was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Henry Aderhold, Carl Sommers, Paul Schmitt, Rudy Pfab, Charles Huhn and Willard Becherer.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Schlais, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Holtz, Mr. and Mrs. R. Strebe and Mr. and Mrs. D. Slice of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Schlais of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lemke of Hawkins, Alvin Brotherton, Lloyd Brotherton and Miss Glendolyn Brotherton of Neillsville, James Allan of Milwaukee, Mrs. Richard Brotherton of Manitowoc, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Walker and Mrs. C. A. Perschke of Grand Rapids, Mich.
