Kobs, Marie (6 Feb. 1881 – 17 Sept. 1954)

Mrs. Fred W. Kobs died Friday at 5:00 P.M. at her home in Colby at the age of 73, following a stroke. She had been in ill health the past several years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Zion Lutheran church in Colby, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Edwin Witte, Delos Luhrson, Ray Kriplean, Norman Meinke, Elmer Meinke, Edwin Grambort. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Leland Siegmann, Doris Jorgenson, Caroline Jorgenson and Gertrude Meinke.

Mrs. Kobs, the former Marie Meinke, was born in Germany on February 6, 1881. She came to the United States with her parents when a small child and settled in Colby where she had made her home since. On November 8, 1899, she was married here to Fred W. Kobs who died on April 25, 1938.

Mrs. Kobs is survived by three daughters, Miss Edna Kobs and Miss Selma Kobs of Colby and Mrs. Matt (Magdalene) Jorgenson of Oconomowoc; two sons, Norman Kobs of Colby and Harold Kobs of Marshfield; a sister, Mrs. William Witte of Colby; a brother, Carl Meinke of the town of Hull and six grand children. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Matt Jorgenson, Doris Jorgenson and Caroline Jorgenson of Oconomowoc, Mrs. Leland Siegmann of Pewaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kriplean of Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. Delos Luhrson of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dunbar of Marshfield and other friends from Wausau, Fenwood and Marshfield.

Mrs. Kobs was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran and the Ladies’ Aid Society of that congregation. She was not only faithful to the church but always endeavored to live up to the teachings of her church. She did not care for social pleasures but always considered the welfare of her family.
