Salter, Richard G. (11 Nov. 1884 – 14 Dec. 1954)

Richard G. Salter died at his home in Colby Tuesday night at 10:30 at the age of 70 years. The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home where Masonic rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. Burial will be made in the Colby cemetery. He had been ill the past 15 years and an invalid the past 10 years.

Mr. Salter was born on November 11, 1884, in Colby. He is a graduate of Colby High School, the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the Stevens Point Business College. His marriage to Verna Lynch took place at Colby on June 1, 1918.

He was associated with the Colby State Bank for 39 years and cashier for many years. He also served as treasurer of the Colby Volunteer Fire Department, the Colby Library Board and the city of Colby for 20 years.

Surviving are his wife and a brother, G. H. Salter of Albuquerque, N.M Two sisters and another brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Salter was well known as a just and upright citizen, a kind husband and a sincere friend, always courteous and obliging. He always endeavored to perform every duty – to his God, his country, his family, his neighbor and [misprint in paper repeated a line and skipped some words of this sentence] and well.

Funeral services for Richard G. Salter, whose death was chronicled last week, were held in the Lulloff Funeral Home Saturday afternoon. Sherman Loos officiated at the Masonic services and Rev. Harvey Schall at the church services.

Pall bearers were Dr. W. W. Payne, Al Rein, C. R. Whitney, William C. Pacholke, George Carr and C. A. Nelsen. Honorary pall bearers were Frank Marquardt, John Reeves, Karl Sabler, George Tesmer, Melvin Tennis and Carl Holtzhausen.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Kenneth Poate of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Fred Sharring of Chicago, Ill., Arthur Salter, Mrs. Theodore Salter and daughter, Betty, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stolzman of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Olson of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Salter and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Salter of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Boneske of Wauwatosa, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Tessmer of Tomahawk.
