A. X. Umhoefer Retires as Colby Postmaster
After serving as Colby postmaster for 19 years and eight months, A. X. Umhoefer has retired as Colby postmaster.
S. L. Loos was sworn in Tuesday as acting postmaster.
During Umhoefer’s term as postmaster, the Colby post office was advanced from third class to second class, due to the increased stamp sales. Umhoefer also served as president of the National League of District Postmasters, president of the Colby Lions Club, president of the Colby Chamber of Commerce, president of the Parent-Teacher Association, secretary of St. Mary’s Catholic church and was active in the affairs of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Equitable Fraternal Union and the Equitable Reserve Association.
Seven years ago, he was elected to the board of trustees of the High Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters which requires him to attend meetings in Chicago two or three days every month. He will continue to serve in that office *** Note: The rest of the article was cut off and was not available at the time of transcription.
