Schwantes, William F. (4 Mar. 1878 – 25 Oct. 1955)
Funeral services for William F. Schwantes were held at Zion Lutheran church in Colby Saturday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Duane Schwantes of Loyal, Terry Schwantes of Neillsville, William Schwantes, Marvin Naedler, William Naedler, all of Granton, and Emil Schwantes of Spencer.
Mr. Schwantes was born in Spencer on March 4th, 1878. He married Francis Justman at Spencer. After their marriage they lived on a farm west of Unity for 23 years and in 1928 moved to Colby. While here, Mr. Schwantes engaged in masonry work. Mr. Schwantes served as treasurer of Maple Wood School for 15 years and held office of deacon of Zion Lutheran church for 18 years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Walter of Spencer, Maynard of Loyal, Donald of Neillsville; one daughter, Mrs. Byrne (Ermine) Neville of Milwaukee; four brothers, Herman of Colby, Arthur of Minneapolis, Minn., Ray of Owen, Harry, address unkown; four sisters, Mrs. Albert (Amelia) Bruss of Colby, Mrs. Chas. (Minnie) Greeler of Neillsville, Mrs. Anna Pockat of Marion, Mrs. Wm. (Linda) Naedler of Granton. Also five grand children and one great grand child. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
People here for the funeral from out of town were from Minneapolis, Minn., Milwaukee, Marion, Granton, Athens, Edgar, Spencer, Marshfield, Neillsville, Unity, Beran, Birnamwood and Loyal.
Mr. Schwantes was well known here as a man of industrious habits and of a congenial and friendly disposition. His friendly greetings will be missed by his friends.
