Soderberg, Bertha (11 JUL 1860 – 16 NOV 1942)

Mrs. Bertha Soderberg passed away at her home in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), Monday morning, Nov. 16, 1942, following a lingering illness.

Bertha Schutt was born July 11, 1860, near Hamburg, Germany. At 8 years of age she came to America with her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Upon reaching the United States, they proceeded to Marinette, Wis., where she lived until she was 17 years old. In 1877 she was united in marriage to August Soderberg at Marinette, Wis. The couple lived in that vicinity until 1844 (probably 1884 or 1894?), when as pioneers they moved to Clark County and settled on a farm in the village of Thorp. To this union, 11 children were born, 6 boys and 5 girls. Her husband and 4 sons, Adolph, William, Charles and Chester, preceded her in death. Surviving her are 7 children, Amanda, Mrs. Garfield Brown of Stanley; Emma, Mrs. Otto Glasshof of Neenah; Bertha, Mrs. William Glasshof of Thorp; Arthur of Thorp; Eva, Mrs. Warren Grace of Marinette; Mrs. Esther Warner of Thorp; and Ted of Marinette; one brother, Fred Schutt, one sister, Mrs. Richard Mueller, both of Marinette, 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock on Thursday afternoon at the Thorp Funeral Home, Rev. Urshon of the Stanley Pentecostal Church, officiating. Interment took place in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Wilfred and Ronald Glasshof, Arthur Soderberg Jr., Wm. Glasshof Jr., Roger Warner and Warren Grace Jr.

Out of town people attending the funeral of Mrs. Bertha Soderberg on Thursday were: Mr. and Mrs. F. Soderberg and son Jimmy of Marinette; Mr. Warren Grace Jr. of Marinette; Mrs. Amanda Brown, Mrs. Gilbert Brown, Mrs. Charles Soderberg and Jack of Stanley; Mr. Wilfred Glasshof of Milwaukee; Mr. Otto Glasshof and Ronald of Neenah; Clarice Warner of St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Soderberg of Marshfield, Mrs. Mary Brown of Eau Claire; Mrs. Lily Ulrich of Eau Claire; Mrs. W.E. Brown; Mrs. Lloyd Hakes; Mrs. George Sharp and Mrs. Marion Brown of Stanley; Mrs. T.L. Decker of Chippewa Falls, Wis. and Mrs. Arthur Huther of Medford.
