Schantini, Gilbert J. (1902 – 1949)

Gilbert J. Schantini died at his home in Colby Sunday at 7:40 P.M. at the age of 47 years after an illness of three years, multiple sclerosis being the cause of his death. The body was taken to the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, where it remained in state until Tuesday evening when it was taken to the Gilman Funeral Home in Park Falls. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the First Congegational church at Park Falls, Rev. B. F. Schoenfeldt officiating, and burial will be in the Park Falls cemetery. S. L. Loos of Colby will officiate at the Masonic services.

Mr. Schantini was born in Little Black, Taylor county, on April 2, 1902, and, when he was two years old, his family moved to Park Falls where he received his education. On Nov. 8, 1930, he married Eugenia Coffey in Michigan. Following his marriage, he lived in Indianapolis for two years. In 1932, he moved to Medford where he operated a restaurant for six years. In 1940, he moved to Colby and worked as a salesman for a candy manufacturing concern. The past year, he operated Bid’s Eat Shop in Colby.

Surviving are his wife and two sons, Jack, a student at Eau Claire Teachers’ College, and Jay, age 12, at home; his mother, Mrs. Josephine Schantini, of Racine; five sisters, Mrs. Earl Dixon of Proctor, Minn., Mrs. Ella DeMars of Bovey, Minn., Mrs. Jake Kronberger of Milwaukee, Mrs. Vernon Heath of Racine, Miss Matilda Schantini of Moneray, Calif.; a brother, Oscar Schantini of Racine.

Last rites for Gilbert Schantini, whose death was reported last week, were held at the First Congregational church at Park Falls last Thursday afternoon, Rev. B. F. Schoenfeldt officiating at the church services and S. L. Loos of Colby at the Masonic rites. Internment was made in the Park Falls cemetery. Pall bearers were Victor Dallmann, Harold Klessig, Lawrence Olson, Frank Hunt, Paul Draeger and C. R. Whitney. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Howard Bane, Mrs. S. L. Loos, Mrs. Victor Dallmann and Mrs. Frank Hunt.

Other Colby Masons at the funeral services at Park Falls were Ed Graumann, Carl Holtzhausen, George Vorland, E. D. Loos, Frank Goeltz, Alvin Holtzhausen, Rev. F. J. Smith and Oscar Carlson.
