Robinson, James A. (5 Nov. 1883 – 4 Mar. 1950)

James A. Robinson, former owner of the Robinson hotel in Colby, died at the Marshfield hospital Saturday morning, after a lingering illness, at the age of 66 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral home in Colby, Rev. F. J. Smith, pastor of the Colby and Unity Methodist churches, officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Nephews acted as pall bearers and were Randel Sterzinger, Rudy Sterzinger, Ben Dahlke, Matt Allar, George Sterzinger.

Mr. Robinson was born in Saginaw, Mich., on Nov. 5, 1883. At the age of 16 years, he went to Chicago where he was employed in meat markets, and, later, for a number of years, operated a meat market. He was married there to Miss Margaret Sterzinger. In 1923, they moved to Colby and entered the hotel business, operating the Robinson Hotel until November, 1948. Mrs. Robinson died in 1934.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Vera Dean Robinson of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Joseph Robinson of Watervliet, Mich., and John Robinson of Chicago; four sisters, the Misses Sarah and Hannah Robinson, Mrs, Edwin Mullerweiss and Mrs. Albert Watters, all of Saginaw, Michigan.

Robinson early in life developed the habit of weighing things in the balance of reason, discarding that which to him did not harmonize with the Creator’s plan as he saw God’s laws in the big book of nature. His convictions were honest and sincere, resulting from much careful study and analysis on his part, and with which he calmly met the fate of all flesh. He was well and favorably known for the splendid manner in which he conducted his hotel in Colby, especially among the traveling men, and esteemed highly here. He served as alderman for several terms and also as a supervisor for several terms.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Miss Vera Dean Robinson of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Wilfred Chalifoux of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Elmer Greaser, Mrs. Thomas Pederson, Mrs. Barbara Schueller, Miss Marilyn Hart, Michael Sterzinger, Ronald Greaser and Lawrence Hart of Milwaukee.
