Lewandowski, Stephen W. (2 SEP 1894 – 29 JUN 1944)

Stephen William Lewandowski passed away at the Stanley Hospital June 29, 1944. His death being caused by internal injuries received when gored by a bull June 18th.

Steve Lewandowski was born in Norristown, Pa., Sept. 2, 1894, having attained the age of 49 years, 9 months and 27 days.

At the age of ten he moved with his parents to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), which has been his home since.

He pursued a course in dairying at the University of Wisconsin and graduated with the class of 1915. Upon completion of this course he was employed in a number of dairying plants in the surrounding community and in West Virginia.

On June 24, 1918, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served until Nov. 28, 1919.

After World War I he returned to Thorp and began farming on the Lewandowski homestead, until the time of his death. Also while farming he held office as Reseburg Town Chairman for two terms, 1932 – 33.

On July 8, 1924, he was united in marriage to Susan Lemanski of Beaver Dam, Wis. To this union six children were born, Vernon 19, Helen 17, Marion 15, Constance 14, Robert 9 and Margaret Ann 3, all at home.

Also mourning his untimely death are three brothers, Leon of Cable, Wis.; Chester of Kenosha and Tony of Thorp. His father Anton of Thorp and one sister Florence (Mrs. A.V. Olson) of Minneapolis, Minn.

Services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church, Monday, July 3rd at 10:00 a.m., Rev. F. Piekarski officiating. Interment was in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 118. The following Legionnaires were pallbearers: Frank Sierociuk, Peter Zukowski, Bruno Lis, Joseph Czech, Fr. Zakrzewicz, Garfield Piwoni.

Edward Przyczyna of Smyrna, Tenn.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kazierski and son Eugene and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Lemanski of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rake, Mrs. Minnie Lemanski, Misses Angeline and Margaret Brown of Beaver Dam; Jerome and Stanley Cieslewicz and daughter Mary of Rosholt, Wis.; George Pabich and son of Greenwood; Mrs. Frank Pabich of Owen.
