Creed, Homer Drake (27 Aug. 1873 – 4 Dec. 1961)

A former resident of this area, Homer D. Creed, 88, died Monday, December 4 at the Veterans Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa.

The body will be brought to Unity for services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Unity Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Koelemay officiating with burial in the Colby cemetery.

The body will repose at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby.

Mr. Creed, born August 27, 1873, was the first white child born in Unity. He was married in Colby October 31, 1902 to the former Nina S. Bevier.

The couple owned and operated a restaurant in Spencer from 1914 to 1918 after which they moved to Duluth and then to Winona, Minn. He retired in 1936 and they returned to Unity.

They moved to the Grand Army Home for Veterans at King in 1942 and lived there until the death of Mrs. Creed in August of 1958. He had since made his home with his children.

Mr. Creed served six months in the Spanish American War. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge and honorary member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Amy) Alcorn, Mason City, Iowa; a son, Jack, Richmond, Calif., six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Rev. Ralph Koelemay officiated at 2 P.M. Saturday at the Methodist Church at the funeral of Homer Drake Creed, 88, who died at Marshalltown, Iowa, December 4 of old age complications. Burial was in the Colby cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas Loughead played “Just As I Am” and “The Old Rugged Cross” on the piano during the services and the Colby VFW conducted military rites.

Pallbearers were Frank Tippelt, John W. Johnson, Frank Jordan, Edward Mews, Alvin Woik and Randy Ballendorf.

Out-of-town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Fern Adamic and son, Joseph, Duluth, Minn., Mrs. George Sauner and son, George, Wausau, Mrs. John C. Alcorn, Mason City, Iowa, and Mr. Jack Creed of Richmond, California.
