Hoops, Pauline (6 Oct. 1861 – 5 June 1934)

Spencer, June 6 – Mrs. John Hoops, 72, a resident here for 40 years, died at 2:15 o’clock yesterday afternoon at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, where she had been a patient since Sunday. Mrs. Hoops had been ill for over a month with infection of the gall bladder, and had seemed to be improving until Saturday when she suddenly became worse and was taken to the Marshfield hospital, where it was found pneumonia had developed.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon, with a short service at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Plath, and at 2 p.m. services will be conducted at the Trinity Lutheran church. The pastor, the Rev. A. C. Stapel, will officiate.

Pauline Natzke was born on Oct. 6, 1861, in Washington county, Wis. She moved to Wayside with her parents, where her marriage to John Hoops was solemnized on Feb. 28, 1878. Forty years ago the couple moved to Spencer, which has been their home since.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoops celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Feb. 28, 1928, at their home, and celebrated the fifty-sixth anniversary of their wedding at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Harry Graham.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hoops is survived by five sons, August, Martin and Ervin, Spencer; Herbert, Fond du Lac, and Henry, Moon; five daughters, Mrs. Lydia Vanderhoof, Mrs. Renada Plath, Mrs. Sabina Graham and Mrs. Elsie Martin, all of Spencer, and Mrs. Herman Molle, Unity. A daughter, Mrs. Sena Luepke, died on Dec. 31, 1933, and two sons died in infancy.

Other surviving relatives include a sister, Mrs. Herman Schroeder, Wayside; and four brothers, Gus Natzke, Wayside; Albert Natzke, Waukegan, Ill.; Herman Natzke, Merrill; and Phillip Natzke, Ashippun. There are 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

*** Note: Mrs. Hoops is buried in the West Spencer Cemetery, Sherman Township, Clark County, Wisconsin.
