Nickel, Dora (7 Feb. 1888 – 14 Oct. 1977)

UNITY – Mrs. Leonard E. (Dora) Nickel, 89, of Unity, died at 8:14 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she was a patient since Sept. 10.

Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Elton Moore officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, after 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Nickel, nee Schwantes, was born Feb. 7, 1888, at Spencer and was married to Leonard Edward Nickel May 1, 1907 at Spencer.

She received her education in Spencer schools. She and her husband farmed east of Unity until 1942, when they retired and moved to the village of Unity.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid Society and Royal Neighbors of America.

Mr. Nickel died Sept. 6, 1974.

Surviving daughters are Mrs. Harold (Vera) Schade of Milwaukee and Mrs. Anthony (Bernice) Yakaites of Marshfield. There are five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Surviving brother and sisters are Mrs. Charles (Anna) Griepentrog, Colby; Mrs. Elmer (Elizabeth) Nelson, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. John (Margaret) Dorek of Minneapolis and George Schwantes, Spencer.

She was predeceased by two brothers, a sister and a child.
