John Kubat, aged 70, for many years a resident of Clark County, died at 7:20 a.m., on Monday, November 20, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Bladl, in Owen, where he had been taken a few days earlier. A requiem high mass was conducted at 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, by the Rev. Fr. J. A. Bielger, pastor of the church. There was also a brief service at the Schiller-Terhune funeral home. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Parish cemetery.

Mr. Kubat had been in poor health for some time, the cause of death being given as cancer.

He was the son of John and Mar Vanek Kubat, wand was born at West Bend, Wis., on January 27, 1873. At the age of ten years, he came with his parents to Clark County, and has resided here since. They settled on a farm in the town of York, where he grew to manhood and received his education. He was a farmer for many years, and for about 20 years worked for the local railroad company. He had been retired a few years. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, and a faithful attendant at St. Mary’s Church whenever his health permitted.

His first wife, Mary Klinke Kubat, died in 1918, and on September 30, 1919, he was united in marriage to Mary Buddinger Begley, who survives. He is also survived by two children Irene, Mrs. Paul Bladl of Owen, and Marie, Mrs. Norman Lynch of Neillsville. There are four grandchildren, Patricia Ann and Paul Bladl, Jr., and Richard and Lawrence Lynch. He is also survived by four brothers, Frank of Neillsville; William of the town of York; Anthony of Portland, Ore.; and Ed of Kansas City, Mo. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death, Sister Ludmilla and Marie, who died at the age of four years, and Joe Kubat.

Ed. Kubat came from Kansas City to attend the funeral services. A rosary service was held Tuesday evening at the Schiller-Terhune Funeral Home.
