James E. Donahue, 83, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, 1947, at his home at 113 West 15th St., Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), after a year’s illness. Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. John J. Pritzl officiated the service. Burial took place in the parish cemetery. The body lay in state at the Georgas Funeral Home until time for the services. A rosary service was held there Wednesday evening.

James Donahue, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Donahue, was born April 22, 1863, at Baraboo, where his early life was spent. He had lived in Clark County the past 32 years.

On Feb. 26, 1897, he was married to Frances Schaefer at West Bend, Wis. Mrs. Donahue and one daughter, Agnes, Mrs. Frank Kunce of Eau Claire, survive. Two sons died in infancy. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. There are three grandchildren: Mrs. Gale Hiles of Neillsville nd Ted and Dale Kunce of Eau Claire, and three great-grandchildren.

While living in Baraboo, Mr. Donahue was active in civic affairs. In 1914 the family moved to Clark County and purchased the farm now owned by Thomas Thomas in the town of Weston. They moved to Neillsville 30 years ago. He was a highway patrolman in this county in the day when the road machinery was drawn by horses. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Holy name Society and the Modern Woodmen of American.

Mrs. Frank Kunce and her sons, Ted and Dale, were here for the funeral services. Mrs. Ted Kunce was ill and unable to be here.
