Funeral services for Mrs. August Klann, Sr., 79, Neillsville, were held Saturday afternoon, January 24, (1948), at St. John’s Lutheran Church, preceded by brief services at the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. William A. Baumann, pastor, officiated and burial was in the Neillsville Cemetery. Mrs. Klann died, after a five-day illness, on Wednesday evening at her home in the Town of Pine Valley, where she has resided the past 62 years.

Albertine Wagner, daughter of Carl and Henrietta Schwartz Wagner, was born January 31, 1868 in Germany. She came with an uncle to the United States when she was 16. After a short residence at Postage, she came to Clark County and she was married January 21, 1886, to August Klann, the ceremony taking place in St. John’s Church, Neillsville. Services were held at that time in the Presbyterian Church. They homesteaded the farm near Sidney, where she has lived since, and where she died on her 62nd wedding anniversary. Mr. Klann died April 2, 1924.

Surviving are seven children: Louisa, Mrs. Charles Schultz, Helene, Mrs. Fred Seif, and Herman and August Klann, Neillsville; William Klann and Minnie, Mrs. John Bartosz, Portage; and Alfrieda, Mrs. Albert Haynes, Chicago. Also surviving are a brother Herman Wagner, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Three children are deceased; Mrs. Meta Seif, Anton Klann, and Emma who died in infancy. One brother and one sister are also deceased.

Mrs. Baumann sand, “My Saviour Be Thou Near Me,” accompanied on the organ by John Bremer.

Pallbearers were: Otto Wetzel, Otto Dux, August Meyer, George Church and Leslie Milton.

Out-of-town folks here for the funeral were: Mrs. Albert Haynes, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Klann, Mrs. Minnie Bartosz and John Bartosz, Portage; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Seif, Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Art Schaefer and family, Loyal; and Mr. and Mrs. James Maricle, Greenwood.
