Sean Michael Ried, 17, Colby, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in Taylor County following an apparent drowning at the Sackett Lake recreational area in the Township of Molitor.

He was born Oct. 15, 1990, in Marshfield. He attended Colby Elementary School and was about to enter his senior year at Colby High School. While not in school, he worked previously at Roger’s Silos in Unity. Presently he was an employee at McDonald’s in Abbotsford.

He enjoyed assisting his elderly neighbors in Colby. He loved skate boarding, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the Chess Club at Colby High School.

He is survived by his parents, Roger and Martha Ried, Colby; three brothers, Stephen Ried, Quad Cities, Iowa, Mark Ried (special friend Nina Doberstein), Medford, and twin brother, Russell Ried, Colby; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Mernajean Strathman, Abbotsford; and special friend, Shari Orth, Abbotsford. He is further survived by two nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceeded in death by twin brothers, Roger and Robert Ried, in 1976, and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Carrie Ried.

A funeral service is planned for Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Medford. Pastor Brian Wipf will preside.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, from 4-8 p.m. at Hemer Funeral Home and Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Stephen, Mark and Russell Ried, Josh Strebe, Nathan Jensen, Nick Sanders and Seth Amundson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the family for future designation. Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, is assisting with arrangements.
