Surnames: Poule, Neff, Raether, Wendt, McClay, McFarlane, Milton, Tay, Hutchings, Owens, McAdams, Masch, Filter, Tesmer, Duge, Thompson, ---Source: The Greenwood Gleaner, By J. E. Noyes. ---Greenwood, Wis., Aug. 30, 1901. Day. Corn is being cut in this vicinity. Wm. Poule has moved on to the Dage farm in Levis. Mrs. D.C. Neff spent a few days at Carlisle this week. Wm. Wendt is now working with the Raether Bros.’ Threshing machine. M. McClay of Madison visited his nephew, Wm. McFarlane, last week. Mrs. Geo. Milton and Jim of Tay visited at the Hutchings home Sunday. John Owens and wife passed through here recently on a pleasure trip to the west. A number of Shortville people passed through here last Tuesday for a picnic down the river. Mesdames McAdams and Hutchings and Mamie Hutchings visited at Columbia one day last week. Katie Masch entertained her friends, Miss Filter of Christie and Miss Tesmer of La Crosse, last week. Albert Duge has returned to his duties at the factory after an outing with Co. A, 3rd Wis., brown as a berry. Walter Thompson, who has been watching camp in the northern part of the state, is at home for a few days’ visit this week. Many are inquiring as to when they will be required to work out their highway taxes. Working out highways in the fall of the year is better than no work. Just a little. A the special town meeting last Saturday, it was voted to bond the town for seventeen hundred dollars, with which to rebuild a steel bridge across Black river at the north end of Grand avenue in Pine Valley. |
