News: Colby (2 Sept. 1885)
Surnames: Cole, Rosene, Potter, Schultz ----Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) Wednesday, September 2, 1885 Families of John Schultz and Chas. Rosene living neighbors just northeast of the village, entered into a sort of difficulty, last week, that led to the arrest of Mr. R. on the charge of assault with intend to do bodily harm on the person of Mr. Schultz. The warrant was sworn out before justice O. R. Potter, who, after listening to the evidence, ordered the prisoner discharged there not being enough evidence to warrant binding him over. The next morning Mr. R. appeared on the street about the worst specimen of humanity we ever saw walk. He looked as through a powder mill had blown up and he the chief victim. He talked so fast our reporter could not keep perfect tally. But it seemed that for some reason or other, Mr. R. had went over to Mr. Schultz and there another difficulty occurred, in which as Mr. R. tells the story, Mr. S. knocked him down and held him while Mrs. S. took a hoe and inflicted some terrible wounds upon him. A severe cut across the eye that is liable to destroy the use of that member, and those who have seen the wounded man, say that hardly a spot on his whole body was left without a mark. What the prime cause of the difficulty was or what will be the probable outcome the Phonograph is unable to state. - J. F. Cole of Spencer, made a visit to Colby on Sunday last, coming up on the noon train with a few other Spencerites. J. F.’s intentions were to visit brother Tom. But he became so engrossed in something at the Commercial House, as to forget he had a brother in town. |
