--------- Phillips, Louis (DEC 1870 – 11 MAR 1947)

Masonic funeral rites were conducted by Harmony Lodge F. & A. M. of Milwaukee, at the Goodman Funeral Home in that city for Louis Phillips of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), at two o’clock, Thursday, March 13th. A Jewish service was also read by Rabbi G. Baumrind and the Masonic and Jewish services were given at the grave.

Mr. Phillips passed away at his home here of a heart attack on Tuesday, March 11th, 1947, after a long illness. He had reached the age of 77 years.

The deceased was born in Lithuania in Dec. 1870. He arrived in America in the year 1886 and resided at Chicago, Green Bay and Manitowoc for a number of years. On March 4, 1900 he was united in marriage with Bertha Balkansky at Sheboygan, Wis., and in 1908 the family came to Thorp, where Mr. Phillips purchased a large general store owned by A. J. Krom. He operated the store for 38 years, but about two years ago retired and his son Sol Phillips assumed charge. Mr. Phillips’ health became poor at that time and during the past six months he failed rapidly.

He was a member of the local Lodged No. 264 F. & A. M.

Besides his widow, who has been an invalid for some time, he is survived by one son, Sol, of Thorp, and two daughters, Mrs. Harry Cohan of Grand Rapids, Mich. And Mrs. Norman Chaimson of Minneapolis, Minn. One son preceded him in death.

Interment was made in the Second Home Cemetery family lot in Milwaukee with Masons serving as pallbearers.
