December 31, 2008 ---Dick, Daniel Joseph (24 May 1950 – 22 December 2008) With Flag Daniel Dick, 58, of Neillsville died Monday Dec. 22, 2008, at his home. Daniel Joseph Dick was born May 24, 1950, in Marshfield, the son of Jacob and Marion (Fischer) Dick. He attended St. John’s The Baptist Grade School, Columbus High School and Mid-State Technical College. In February of 1970 he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Korea during the Vietnam War as a medic in a Medevac hospital. Dan was united in marriage to Mary Pettis Aug. 15, 1970, on base at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. After his discharge from the service, Dan and Mary came to Neillsville, where he worked at the foundry for a time. He also worked in construction and as an orderly at the Memorial Medical Center. Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. He was a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73 in Neillsville. He was an avid Boy Scout leader, a Little League coach and was active in 4-H with his children. Dan was an all-around animal lover, often letting the animals join him in the house. His hobbies included hunting, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Scott (Kathy) Dickson of Cambridge and Steven Dick of Gillingham, England; a daughter, Rebecca (Scott) Schoengarth of Neillsville; five grandsons, Patrick, Hunter, Devon, Zavery and Kyzer; 13 siblings, Alice (Edward) Rivard of Hartford, Bernard (Geraldine) Dick of Mosinee, John (Jane) Dick of Spencer, Mary Joy (Joan) Dick of Brooklyn Park, MN, Mary Budtke of Stratford, Lawrence (Donna) Dick of Marshfield, Frances (Kenneth) Brandl of Auburndale, Margaret (Richard) Becker of Cody, WY, Teresa (Marvin) Nelson of Fond du Lac, Virgeen (Brian) King of Antioch, CA, Jacob (Linda) Dick of Marshfield, Kathryn Dick of Milwaukee and Joseph Dick of Warren, MI; a sister-in-law, Delores Dick of Lindsey; and several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald and Robert; a sister, Lorraine; nephew, Kyle Dick; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Frederick and Jerome Budtke. A Mass of Christian Burial for Dan was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at the Holy Family Catholic church in Willard. The Celebrant was Fr. Joseph Follmar. Interment was in the Columbia Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council. Casketbearers were Casey Schoengarth, Tony Berg, Travis Berg, Allyn Bertrang, Timothy Strangfeld, David Dick and Travis Gurney. The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Daniel’s family with funeral arrangements.
