Another year has passed for The Loyal Tribune. Unlike the calendar year, a newspaper year begins and ends according to when each individual newspaper was started. Our new “publishing year” starts with this issue, which is volume 54, number 1. The first issue of The Tribune was printed 53 years ago this week, on Feb. 16, 1894.

Although our files were destroyed by fire in March, 1931, we still have a file of the first year of publication in our office. Subscribers interested in seeing this old file are welcome to inspect at any time. This file was secured from the late Mrs. Hattie Richardson, whose husband, D. V. Richardson, started The Tribune in Loyal.

As we begin the 54th year of publication, we find that we have more subscribers on the mailing list than we had a year ago. Considering the fact that nearly all of the names of those in the service during the war have now been taken off our list, it means that our circulation is more than “holding our own.”

Entering into another publication, we intend to continue publishing a newspaper that compares favorably with other small town weeklies. We appreciate the fine cooperation which we have from our advertisers and subscribers in the past and hope that we may count on the same splendid cooperation during the coming year.
