Mr. Campbell received his appointment as postmaster at this place last Monday. His bonds were executed and forwarded to Washington with the appointment of his principal assistant, Mr. Ira B. Jones, who now occupies the same position under Mr. Ferguson, the same day. At what time Mr. Campbell will take possession of the office is of course not known, more than that it will be at no distant day, and whether it will be kept in the building now occupied is also undetermined, the probability being that a change in locality as well as in official will be made.

Joe Hammel, of the firm of J. Hammel & Co. of this place, started out with the crowd to see the sights at Eau Claire on the Fourth, but unlike most of the crowd continued his patriotic observation long after the matter had been disposed of at Eau Claire, bringing up at Wausau, where he remained several days, returning to this city on Monday last, by the way of Chicago.

“Sherman Correspondence”

Mr. Ed Kayhart returned from a short visit to Calamet County and brought home a fine span of young horses. He also sports a saddle, a luxury almost unknown to our horsemen here.
