News: The Clark Republican and Press 9-27-1883
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 9-27-1883 One of the busiest places in the city last Thursday was at the Republican and Press office, where many visitors witnessed the running of the new, unrivaled Cottrell printing press throwing off its fifteen hundred sheets per hour. Besides the daily, the large weekly edition and the Deutsch Amerikaner were printed, making nearly five thousand impressions. We notice the names of J. C. Moody, I. Withee, William Palmer and Hugh C. Perkins in the list of attendants at the re-union of the old Iron Brigade at La Crosse on the 13 and 14th inst., of which they were members. Mrs. S. Felt is prepared to do all kinds of dress making, having the latest styles and patterns, and guarantees satisfaction as to prices and quality of work. A. W. Ayers, te manufacturer of wagons, buggies and cutters, at West Salem, was in the city last week. Mr. N. J. Wiggin represents the factory here, and who had wagons and buggies of his make at the fair grounds on exhibition. Any one wishing to purchase any of his well known buggies or cutters will find hem on hand a Mr. Wiggin shops, or can order through him. F. M. Cater, dealer in sewing machines, at Greenwood, is selling the Wheeler & Wilson sewing machine and can supply any demand for the well tried and favorite machine. The foundation for the Presbyterian church at Greenwood will be commenced at once, the contract having been let to Thomas Blecha. The building will be 26X40. Peter Peterson, of Sherwood Forest, was made happy by the arrival of an infant daughter yesterday. Hein & Graf have purchased the building owned and occupied by Peter Johnson, opposite Wells’ liver barn, which they contemplate converting into a cheese factory. On last Friday, Geo. H. Prock, of Weston brought to the office of Republican and Press, a basswood leaf measuring 12 ½ inches in width and 14 inches in length. Mr. J. A. Douglas, of Thorp, who built the first hotel at that place, the Douglas House, visited us on Saturday. He recently sold his farm and hotel and is about to remove to North Carolin |
