Henry Shanks lost a horse through a defective highway, and asks the town to pay for it. A little cheaper to buy a few planks.

THORP ITEMS: James Conners has just returned from Eau Claire, where he has spent a few days having his eyes treated.

Perkins, the photographer is in town.

Thorp has another acquisition. A young lawyer, Geo. Parkhill.

Mike Carey, one of the proprietors of the Forest Queen house, has a brother visiting him. He is from Eau Claire and is as good natured and jolly as Mike.

H. E. Lytle, who has been absent for some time, buying cattle in Weywega, has returned and will now superintend his meat market.

Mrs. J. S. Platt and Miss M. McLain took the evening train Saturday for Cadott to attend the quarterly meeting of M.E. church.

Geo. Henshall will have a bower completed by the 4th when the merry dancers can enjoy dancing in the pure, fresh air.

The new road that is being opened from town to the depot adds very much to the looks of the town, and is a decided improvement.

The Catholics are making great progress on their church. It now looms up quite definitely and will, when completed, add much to the appearance of the town.

John Gray, our genial postal clerk, has gone to visit his old home at Portage city.

J. H. Sargent and V. R. Mead have returned from their land hunting excursion and report mosquitoes more plentiful than pine timber.

Nelson Couster has purchased a very desirable building place north of town. It cannot be that Nels contemplates matrimony. It looks suspicious.

Sargent and Lyttle are making great improvements on their hall, by putting in a new floor, building a veranda to front and various other improvements.
