The good people of the town of York are considerably excited over the reported appearance of a large panther in their midst.

Mrs. W. C. Goss, the famous hotel man of the Four Mile House, returned from Minnesota Saturday morning accompanied by his wife.

Miss Mary Boise, of Loyal, who spent part of the summer visiting Mrs. Flint, of this city, has commences teaching a four months’ term of school in Sherwood Forest.

Joseph Roy, of Merrillan, a promising young lawyer and the genial clerk of the judiciary committee of the last Assembly, was in town last Monday. We acknowledge a pleasant call.

There was a pleasant surprise party at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Tully Pratt, in Pine Valley, on Wednesday evening of last week. Their new and commodious residence is well arranged for such a gathering. It was a surprise indeed, but none the less acceptable. Supper was well served, nice presents were left behind, and all went home gladdened by the occasion.

Mr. A. B. Day, the old hunter and pioneer of the town of Levis, got out of lead on Thanksgiving night, and by the light of a lamp, killed with a club a large wild cat which was having a savage discussion with his dog in regard to some chickens belonging to Mr. Day. Those bob tailed felines are said to be quite numerous this fall, and make frequent raids upon the chicken roosts of the farmers.
