Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 4-30-1885 LONGWOOD ITEMS: Thomas Sullivan has sold his blacksmith shop, to Louis Mathison. Mr. S. intends to move to Chippewa Falls and commence business. THORP TOPICS: Charles Anthon Gilbert a young man, aged twenty-five years, who came to this place in December last in destitute circumstances, died very suddenly at the “Thorp House”, on Saturday last. Justice Tiedeman empanelled a jury, and held an inquest over the body, the jury finding that death ensued from natural causes. As the boy was a stranger, and without friends of money the justice has him decently buried at the County’s expense. The young man’s father who lives in Groversville, N. Y., has been telegraphed to of his son’s death, but as the young man ran away from home seven years ago and changed his name by adding “Charles” to it, His father sent a telegram asking for a description. A full description was telegraphed back but as yet no reply has been received. Mrs. Sibyl Waters, daughter of N. N. Burrington of the town of Withee, died at the home of her parents in that town very suddenly on Saturday night last. She had felt unusually well during the day, and had done a heavy ironing, retiring to rest in apparent good health and spirits. In the night the family were aroused by hearing strange sounds from Mrs. W’s room, and hastening to her side attempted to arouse her, but all efforts were fruitless, and she died in a very few moments after being discovered. |
