News: The Clark Republican and Press 6-18-1886
Source: The Clark Republican and Press Date: 6-18-1886 The "froggers,” in order to prevent being laughed at in case their frogging hunt was unsuccessful, hired a small boy to catch and skin a small pail full of the swamp birds, and had them hid in a refrigerator, but that wicked Mike Post “dropped on ‘em”, and had them served for dinner at the O”Neill House. The froggers frogged successfully, however, and though the guests at the O’Neill had stewed frog, fried frog and frog on toast, the froggers had frog enough to make themselves swell up as big as the frog in the fable, but not with the same disastrous result, and came home singing the old song: “Some boys they would a frogging go! Sing a song kichle won’t you kime, O” We acknowledge the receipt of several kind quarters with a copy of life song. Jim McClenahan has the words set to music. Jim was elected captain of the squad and Bill Robison, first lieutenant. Their shoulder straps were worn on their bosoms and consisted of crushed frog. THORP TIDINGS: 105 degrees in the shade yesterday. Thorp needs a few hundred more dogs. W. T. Dalton, of Chippewa Falls, is in town. Frank Mishen went to Eau Claire yesterday. Joe Girardot, of Cadott, is in town visiting old friends. A brother of H. Lindemann talks of starting a cigar factory here. |
