Schommer, whose death was chronicled in this paper last week, was laid at rest in the Colby Catholic Cemetery, Monday, March 12, funeral services being held at the Catholic Church, Rev. Lachnit officiating. The deceased was born in Ozaukee Co., Wis., May 7, 1859, and died March 8, 1928, heart failure being the cause of his journey to the distant shore. He reached the age of sixty-eight years, ten months and one day. On April 23, 1878, he was married to Catherine Breining at Hancock, Mich. This union was blessed with ten children, nine of who are still living, namely: B. M. Schommer, John Schommer, L. J. Schommer, Mrs. Peter Van Rooy, all of Colby; Mrs. Carl Johnston, town of Johnston; Mrs. Einar Olson, town of Holton; Casper L. Schommer, Raymond W. Schommer and Mrs. Albert Debruind, all of Kaukauna. He came to this locality Oct. 9, 1907, and engaged in the farming business. He was a faithful member of the catholic Church and C. O. F. Those from out of town here for the funeral were C. L. Schommer, Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Schommer, Little Chute; Mrs. Agnes Macken, Menasha; Mrs. Minnie Rohloff, Menasha; Lambert Schommer, Little Chute, Wm. Schommer, Freedom; Mrs. Alice Leisch, Freedom; Albert DeBruin; Mr. Raymond Schommer and Mrs. Rose Schommer, Kaukauna. Besides his wife and children, his departure is also mourned by one brother, Nick L. Schommer, Little Chute. He was a man of excellent habits, fine moral character and a good Christian, and his relatives and friends will always remember him as a kind and loving husband and father. |
