--------- Hoppen, Katherine (3 MAR 1858 - 9 JUL 1928)

Mrs. Peter Hoppen, one of the early pioneers of Colby, Wis., died at the home of her son, William, at Chicago, Monday, July 9, 1928. Mrs. Hoppen suffered from a stoke about a year ago and has been ailing ever since, and Monday passed on to the distant shore. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Wednesday, July 11th, and interment made in the Colby Cemetery.

The deceased was born in Meeme, Manitowoc Co., Wis., March 3, 1858, thus reaching the age of seventy years, four months and six days. She and her husband spent the greater part of their lives in Colby, living here about forty years. Besides her husband, two children, George Hoppen of Stevens Point and William Hoppen of Chicago, mourn her departure.

With the departure of Mrs. Hoppen, another name must be stricken from the roll of early pioneers of this vicinity. She had many friends here who will remember her for her kind and hospitable ways and extend their sympathy to the mourners.

The remains were accompanied from Chicago to Colby by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hoppen and son, Claude.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. George Hoppen, Mr. and Mrs. D. Copps, Mrs. E. J. Nelson, all of Stevens Point, Wis.; Mrs. Cunnoo Wolters, a sister of Mr. Hoppen, Two Rivers; J. C. Bowers, Park Falls; Mr. and Mrs. James Rankin, Medford; Mildred and Virginia Bowers, grandchildren of Mrs. Hoppen, and Mrs. Paulson, all of Medford.
