Obit: Jordan, Joe (1863 - 1929)
Surnames: JORDAN DEMMER LUBE SCHOMER LYNN JENSEN ---------Source: COLBY PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Wis.) 10/10/1929 --------- Jordan, Joe (14 JUN 1863 - 4 OCT 1929) Joe Jordan, one of the old pioneers of Clark County, Wis., and a former alderman of the city of Colby, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 4, 1929, at 7:00 p.m., heart failure being the cause of his departure. Funeral services were held Monday morning at the home and interment was made in the Colby Cemetery. Mr. Jordan was playing solitary at the time of his death, when he was suddenly stricken with heart failure and fell out of his chair dead. The deceased was born in Germany on June 14, 1863, thus reaching the age of sixty-six years, three months and twenty days. He came to the U. S. forty-five years ago and worked for a time in mines near Lake Superior. He was married to Miss Margaret Demmer at Medford in 1886, where they lived for four years before coming to Colby to live. Here he operated a farm just within the city limits of Colby and was elected to the office of alderman two times. He is survived by his wife and eleven children, namely: Joseph, Mellen; Peter, Hurley; Mrs. Angus Lube, Withee; Mrs. John Schommer, Colby; Frank, Unity; Anna, Sparta; Mrs. Charles Lynn, Antigo; Matt, Mellen; Rose, Breda, Iowa; Mrs. William Jensen, Colby; Hildegard, Columbus. All the children except Rose were here for the funeral. The deceased had a candid outspoken temper, but always seemed to be cheerful when he met his friends on the streets of Colby. He took a keen interest in city affairs while in office and even after he lost the office of alderman. He was very apt to argue over city affairs but would never take offense when anyone did not agree with him. |
