George W. Courter was born in New Jersey, Nov. 13, 1843, and died July 11, 1921, at the age of 79 years and 7 months. He came to Plymouth, Wis. in the year 1847 and there resided until he was 18 years of age, at which time he enlisted in the Civil War, servicing three years and two months, and took part in several of the large battles. He was wounded at the battle of Sabinefork and after his recovery was discharged from the service. He then re-enlisted and served until the war was over, after which he returned to Plymouth and was united in marriage to Miss Lottie Crane of that place. To this union five children were born, three children and his wife preceding him in death. In 1875 he moved to Thorp, Clark county, Wis., where he acquired a homestead and there resided until 1892, when he moved to the town of Reseberg and there lived until the time of his death. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Baptist Church for the past thirty-eight years. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Bobbs Mill Church, Rev. E. C. Clark, pastor of that church, officiating, burial was made in the cemetery at that place. He leaves to mourn his departure two sons, William and George, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Phillips of Thorp, and four grandchildren. He had a wide circle of friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
